20 years advancing responsible agriculture and transparent supply chains

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the ProTerra Standard.

Since its launch on 17 April 2006, the ProTerra Standard has supported responsible agricultural production and transparent supply chains across global commodity markets.

Over the past two decades, the ProTerra community has grown into a global network of more than 160 members operating in 50 countries. What began with a focus on responsible soy production has evolved into a multi-crop sustainability framework, covering commodities such as soy, sugarcane, rapeseed, maize, wheat and barley.

Throughout these 20 years, the ProTerra Standard has continued to evolve alongside the agricultural sector. To support implementation across different production contexts, additional guidance has been introduced over time, including the European Interpretation and the Smallholders Interpretation. More recently, the ProTerra Regenera add-on module was launched to support credible progress towards regenerative agriculture and ecosystem resilience.

This milestone reflects the collective commitment of the ProTerra community. Producers, traders, processors, certification bodies and retailers working together to advance responsible agriculture and transparent supply chains.

We thank everyone who has been part of this journey and contributed to the development of the ProTerra Standard.
