Introduction to the ProTerra Foundation

The ProTerra Foundation is a non-profit organization registered in the Netherlands. It works with companies across the food and feed supply chains, dedicated to achieving more sustainable agricultural development and creating a fairer, more ethical, and more sustainable future.

In 2023, based on shared values and vision, the ProTerra Foundation established a strategic partnership with BellaTerra Consulting Management (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. ProTerra authorised BellaTerra Consulting to realise the localisation of the ProTerra and MRV Standards, to conduct stakeholder engagement and coordination in China and to provide official Chinese-language information for reference, building a bridge for potential cooperation. The Chinese WeChat account will continue to update the latest information and relevant documents from the ProTerra Foundation. This year, we will gradually release summaries of the key principles from the ProTerra Standard on Social Responsibility and Environmental Sustainability, Version 5, so please stay tuned. ProTerra Standard Webinar Successfully Held

As autumn deepens and harvest season arrives as expected, on the afternoon of September 8, 2025, BellaTerra Consulting successfully hosted the webinar on the application of the ProTerra Standard, bringing together discussions on new trends in responsible sourcing and sustainable development!

The webinar was opened and hosted by Ms. Isabel Nepstad, founder and CEO of BellaTerra Consulting. We were honored to invite three experts to share their insights:

• Mrs. Emese Van Maanen, Executive Director of the ProTerra Foundation, introduced the latest progress of the Foundation, particularly emphasising that the ProTerra Standard has been benchmarked against the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), providing a powerful tool for companies needing compliance and risk management.

• Mr. Han Zhan, Director of Agriculture at BellaTerra Consulting, focused on the key areas and core objectives of the ProTerra Standard. He gave an in-depth presentation on Principles 4, 5, and 10 of the ProTerra Standard V5 on Social Responsibility and Environmental Sustainability, and provided detailed interpretation of its application in China, offering practical and actionable recommendations for companies.

• Ms. Wang Ziyan, Senior Manager of the International Department at China Standard Conformity Assessment Co., Ltd. (CSCA), gave a thorough analysis of key considerations and material preparations for companies, covering the overall certification process of the ProTerra Standard, preparations before audits, and corrective actions after audits—helping enterprises pass certification efficiently.

At the end of the webinar, the experts engaged in a Q&A session, addressing questions from participants, especially those related to the “certification process and costs for smallholders,” and shared valuable experiences.

Closing

This enriching exchange and discussion not only fostered cross-regional and cross-sector industry communication and collaboration but also injected new momentum into the promotion and certification of the ProTerra Standard in China. We look forward to meeting again at the Non-GM Soy Conference in November, joining hands to stride toward a green future!
